On 31 March 2020, the lease Loftus Community Centre Inc. has for the Loftus Community Centre will cease, due to an operational deficit. The City of Vincent plans to reopen the centre on April 1 as a City facility to keep the services running for the local community.

At the November Council meeting, Council agreed in principle to take on direct management of the Loftus Community Centre and for some of the staff working at the centre to be employed by the City.

“The Loftus Community Centre has provided valuable services to thousands of people in the community over the past 40 years and there are obvious synergies with some services offered by the City of Vincent. In particular, some services for seniors and children will continue,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“By working together with the management committee we plan to keep this valuable service available to our community with minimal disruption to the centre’s current bookings and programs.”

“We would like to also recognise the Loftus Community Centre Management Committee who have invested so much of their time and energy into the centre over a number of years and thank them for their service to the community,” she said.

The Loftus Community Centre Management Committee wrote to their members and user groups on 27 November 2019 to advise them what had transpired and invited them to the centre’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18 December to find out more information.
