Fall in love (with a new book)

The City of Vincent will connect likeminded booklovers through a Literary Speed ‘Dating’ event as part of Library Lovers’ Week.

The event, which mimics the speed dating format without the hassle of exchanging phone numbers or bad dates, is being held at the Vincent Library on February 11.

“Literary Speed Dating is all about igniting the passion for books in a fun and friendly way. Rather than trying to convince a stranger to join them for dinner, participants will have 60 seconds to woo another booklover into picking up a copy of their favourite book,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

Bookworms will be paired up every three minutes and will get one minute to talk about their book, one minute to listen about their partner’s book and one minute to discuss, debate, laugh or swoon over their favourite novel.

Library Lovers’ Day celebrates the services libraries offer to the community.

The theme for the day is ‘uncover something new’ and the Literary Speed ‘Dating’ event gives residents the chance to uncover new books and new friendships.

“The City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre is a community hub, a place to discover great reads as well as events and activities,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“It is a place for people of all ages to gather, learn, explore, read and grow. And best of all, it is free to join.

“Library Lovers’ Week is a time to remind our community of all of the great benefits of our local library, and Literary Speed Dating is an invitation to all to embrace reading and discussing their love of books. I encourage everyone to come and enjoy it for themselves.”

In 2019, there were 201,785 items borrowed from the library.
