Vincent responds to Joel Terrace traffic safety concerns

Following concerns from East Perth residents regarding increased traffic and speeding along Joel Terrace, the City of Vincent will install temporary speed awareness signs in the area.

Speed awareness signs are designed to deter speeding and encourage safer driving by displaying a vehicle’s speed as it passes. Drivers travelling within the limit will see a green smiling face, while those going over will see a reminder to slow down. The signs also collect traffic data such as average speeds and traffic volumes, which help us plan safer roads.

We plan to install the signs next week and they will remain on Joel Terrace for six months before being moved to a new location identified as having traffic safety concerns.

The first streets in Vincent to have the temporary speed signs installed were Farmer Street in North Perth and Britannia Road in Mt Hawthorn.

Analysis of data collected during a trial on Ellesmere Street Mt Hawthorn showed the signs were successful in encouraging safer driving.

The project is part of our Accessible City Strategy, which aims to prioritise pedestrians through safe streets, slower speed zones and shared spaces.
