Bulwer Street Safety Improvements

About the project

We’re improving safety on Bulwer Street at the intersection of Smith and Brisbane streets in Perth.

Located opposite HBF Park, this intersection can be busy during peak periods.

The project will see raised plateaus constructed on Bulwer Street to slow drivers before they enter the roundabout from both directions.

The elevated section will be finished with a red surface to enhance visibility and serve as a visual cue to slow down.

These changes aim to improve safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Funding

The project has been funded through the State Government Black Spot Program, which aims to reduce crashes and save lives on Australian roads by funding works at high-risk locations.

This intersection on Bulwer Street qualifies for the Black Spot Program due to a history of crashes.

Works

Resurfacing of Bulwer Street between Smith and Beaufort streets will begin on Friday 26 September.

Because this section of Bulwer Street is classified a ‘Distributer A’ road we will complete the works at night. Night works are necessary to limit the impact to daytime traffic, pedestrians and businesses.

Road closures will be in place between 8pm to 6am for five nights between Friday 26 September and Friday 3 October (excluding the weekend). Traffic management will be on site from 7pm to help residents with access to their property.

On-street parallel parking will be restricted. Residents and visitors to the area can park on adjoining streets or within the Brisbane Hotel car park.
