The City of Vincent and Main Roads WA are partnering to deliver a series of traffic-calming improvements across Brisbane Street as part of the Low-Cost Urban Road Safety Program.
The project follows a petition presented to Council in March 2024 and aims to improve road safety and reduce the risk of serious crashes for all road users, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
The works will be delivered in two stages across Brisbane Street and surrounding local streets.
Stage 1 works, scheduled for construction in the 2025/26 financial year, will focus on intersections at:
- Brisbane Street and Lake Street
- Brisbane Street and Dangan Street
- Brisbane Street and Palmerston Street
Stage 2 works, planned for 2026/27, will include treatments at:
- Edith Street west of William Street
- Ruth Street west of William Street
- Ruth Street and Lake Street
- Lake Street and Stuart Street
- Stuart Street and Orange Avenue
- Stuart Street and Palmerston Street
The project is fully funded through Main Roads WA’s Low-Cost Urban Road Safety Program, which supports local governments to deliver lower-cost road safety improvements in areas with higher-than-average crash history.
Planned treatments may include traffic-calming measures such as raised safety platforms, pedestrian crossing facilities and other improvements designed to encourage safer road user behaviour and improve neighbourhood amenity.
Treatment locations and designs were developed using traffic data, road user movements, future land use considerations and feedback from stakeholders including residents, Main Roads WA and the Department of Transport.
Further community engagement for Stage 2 treatments will be shared closer to construction.
