Big sounds, family fun and fresh air

Pack a picnic blanket and join us for a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon in the heart of Hyde Park, filled with the swinging sounds of live jazz! From big bands to intimate ensembles, traditional to eclectic, this free alcohol-free event is the perfect way to spend a musically inspired Saturday.

 Hungry? Bring your own picnic or explore the food trucks. From dumplings to ice-cream, there’s something for everyone.

 Be part of the music. Players of all ages and abilities are invited to bring their (portable) instruments and gather at the stage at 1:15pm for the Jazz Parade. March with a New Orleans-style brass band around the lush parklands — or simply follow the beat, clap along, and add your energy to the celebration.

 After the parade, settle back on your blankets and enjoy the sounds of tomorrow’s musos with performances from the WAAPA Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the WAAPA Zwartz Ensemble.

 To close, De Cuba Son will bring irresistible salsa and Latin jazz grooves to the stage — perfect for dancing and ending the afternoon on a high note.
