ELECTRIC VEHICLEs
The City of Vincent is looking to provide electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure in its public carparks and local streets, in response to an increased uptake in Perth.
Some older homes do not have a driveway, garage, off-road parking, or the electrical capacity for an EV charging station. That is why we are investigating opportunities for homeowners to install private chargers on their verges and for us to build more public chargers.
The City does not permit the installation of private electrical infrastructure within or across the public verge (including footpaths) for the purpose of charging electric vehicles. This includes running cables under the pavement or installing power outlets on the verge.
This approach is based on several important considerations:
- Public safety – ensuring the verge and footpath remain safe and accessible for all users
- Infrastructure protection – avoiding conflicts with existing and future underground services such as drainage, utilities, and street trees
- Regulatory compliance and liability – ensuring all works within public land meet relevant standards and legislative requirements
- Equitable use of public space – maintaining consistent and fair access to the verge, which is managed for the benefit of the whole community.
In the meantime, residents may wish to consider alternative options such as:
- Public EV charging stations located within and around the City
- Off-site or shared charging arrangements where available.
Our aim is to provide more reliable and fast charging options for EV vehicle owners and empower other residents to make the switch.
Community charging points
The City currently has three electric vehicle charging points available for community use. A charging point is a plug in bollard structure that electric vehicles can plug into to recharge.
These are located at the Avenue car park in Leederville (shown below as a red rectangle):

And Chelmsford Road car park in Mount Lawley (shown below as two red rectangles):
