Smart Blocks

Introducing Smart Blocks

Smart Blocks is a new, national program helping apartment owners and their managers save money by improving energy efficiency in apartment buildings.

Smart Blocks has been designed and developed with the assistance of apartment owners, strata managers and facilities managers as part of the Sustainable Strata project. Smart Blocks was launched in June 2013, with the very first Smart Blocks workshop proudly hosted by the City of Vincent.

Why Energy Efficiency?

A smart apartment block knows to start saving energy and stop losing money. On average, residents of high-rise buildings use 25 per cent more energy per person than those living in detached dwellings. Up to half of this energy use comes from common property (e.g. pools, car parks, hallway lights).  Investing in energy efficiency could save your owners corporation up to 20-30% in energy costs.

At the core of Smart Blocks is an interactive online toolkit, designed to help you discover what energy efficiency improvements can be made to your building. The toolkit will help guide you through the steps of scoping a project and getting it approved.

Making change in an owners corporation isn't easy. Smart Blocks is all about giving you the right information and guidance to get the job done!

Smart Blocks Community Workshops

The 2013 round of Smart Blocks workshops has now concluded, but watch this space for events in early 2014.
