City of Vincent awarded Streets Alive grant to transform Lincoln Street

The City of Vincent has secured $96,000 through the Streets Alive funding program to deliver its Leafy Liveable Lincoln Street project in Highgate – an initiative that will create a safer, greener and more connected neighbourhood through community-led street improvements.

The project will be delivered in collaboration with Northbridge Common and Highgate Primary School, alongside planned resurfacing works on Cavendish Street in 2026.

It includes upgrades to pedestrian crossings, verge rewilding, rain gardens and pavement art, transforming the street experience for the local community.

The Streets Alive funding will allow Vincent to embed water sensitive urban design, reduce hardstand surfaces and strengthen the biodiversity corridor that stretches from Galup to Derbarl Yerrigan. The project will also help deliver natural traffic calming and safer routes for children walking to Highgate Primary School.

Mayor Alison Xamon said the grant reflects Vincent’s commitment to building people-friendly streets that prioritise safety, nature and community connection.

“Leafy Liveable Lincoln Street is a wonderful outcome for Vincent and we sincerely thank the State Government and Streets Alive program partners for this support,” Mayor Xamon said.

“These practical, on-the-ground changes can deliver climate resilience at a local street level while empowering residents and the school community to shape how their streets look, feel and function into the future.”

"Vincent was recently recognised as the most liveable City in Western Australia and projects like this will continue to build on that."

The Northbridge Common Town Team said creating an environment that naturally calms traffic will help protect all road users, especially vulnerable pedestrians such as children travelling to school.

“We are excited to work with the City to create safer, greener streetscapes, amplifying our rewilding efforts and engaging more of our community.”

Highgate Primary School said the project will complement the school’s native garden and biodiversity initiatives while also improving safety and shade for students and families.

"We believe Leafy Liveable Lincoln Street will deliver lasting benefits for our students, their families and the wider community.”

Leafy Liveable Lincoln Street aligns with Vincent’s Enhanced Environment Strategy 2025-2030, Accessible City Strategy and the Bike Network Plan 2023–2028, plans all shaped by robust community input.

Delivering a project that advances all of these at once demonstrates the City’s commitment to putting community-led priorities into practice.

The Streets Alive program is delivered by Town Team Movement in partnership with Main Roads WA and the Western Australian Local Government Association.
