In collaboration with the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, we're excited to reveal three new film projects that will bring the City’s vibrant community and rich history to life on the big screen.
The City of Vincent Film Project, the only initiative of its kind in Australia, offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to receive a grant of $9,500—comprising $8,500 in cash and $1,000 in kind from Perth’s leading camera equipment provider, Raz Studios and venue support from our long-time friends at Halo Films. The grant supports the production of a non-fiction short film of 10 minutes or less set in and around the City of Vincent.
Designed to encourage innovative and leading-edge storytelling and geared toward new and emerging filmmaking teams, this project serves as a dynamic platform to capture the City’s lively spirit, showcasing the diverse personalities and untold stories that make Vincent special. It celebrates both personal and historical narratives, while also providing emerging filmmakers the chance to share their creative vision.
Previous films have explored a variety of local stories, from discovering unique architectural styling of the Fediterranean style, to the wonderful impressionistic textures of the North Perth Town Hall to the vitality of music venues. Other films have told the life story of renowned fashion designer the late Aurelio Costarella, examined the challenges faced by queer people in creating a nuclear family, delved into the impact of the housing crisis on young people, and celebrated iconic local landmarks like the Re Store. Many have screened internationally and continue to do so, winning awards and garnering signficant critical acclaim.
This year, the City of Vincent Film Project continues its mission to bring fresh, authentic narratives to the screen, reflecting the true heart and soul of this dynamic Perth community.
“Being part of the City of Vincent Film Project is one of the great joys for all of us at Rev,” says Festival Director Richard Sowada. “It’s an honour to be associated with the development of the new wave of independent screen artists in WA telling stories of in and about the community. They make a real difference, and we hope this initiative does the same thing to their careers.”
“We are incredibly lucky to have such a rich tapestry of people and families living in Vincent" says City of Vincent Mayor Alison Xamon. "The Film Project offers a powerful way to honour and share the stories that connect our community. Congratulations to the winners, and I look forward to watching the three films at the premiere in July next year.”
