From 19 May, the northern section of Britannia Reserve Car Park will be used as a holding area for motorists seeking to visit the drive through Western Diagnostic COVID-19 testing clinic on Oxford Street in Mount Hawthorn, as part of a trial until 30 June 2022.

The operating times are Monday to Friday, from 6am to 3pm.

The holding area will only be utilised during busy times (predominantly mornings) if there are no available spots at the clinic, to avoid cars queuing on Fairfield Street.

Traffic management will be in place. Waiting motorists will be directed to wait at the northern end of the Britannia Reserve Car Park in their cars and traffic controllers will be in place to direct waiting cars to the clinic on Oxford Street when spots are available.

The use of the car park has been approved by the City of Vincent under the City's Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law.

Why is this happening?

Increased traffic visiting the Western Diagnostic Drive Through Clinic on Oxford Street Mount Hawthorn, has created issues in Fairfield Street as cars queue, particularly along Fairfield Street where residents have experienced access issues to and from their properties.

The City of Vincent has been working with the Western Diagnostic Drive Through Clinic and the Department of Health to address the issue. City Rangers have been patrolling the area regularly to assist and the hours of operation have been reduced.

Western Diagnostic Pathology has been supporting the State Government and WA's healthcare system in providing drive through locations throughout the metropolitan area to test as many people as possible.

The City of Vincent supports the State Government's efforts to ensure sufficient and accessible testing locations but understands the impact this has had on nearby residential streets and has advocated to address this.
