Donley Lane

The City of Vincent is proposing to name the laneway located between Norham Street and Little Walcott Street in North Perth.

The laneway does not currently have a proper name. In historical maps of North Perth from the early 1990s, the laneway is listed as 'No. 1 Street'. The name 'No. 1 Street' does not comply with Landgate's Policies and Standards for geographical naming in Western Australia, so the laneway does not have an acceptable name.

Some of the lots on Blake and Mabel Streets are being subdivided and properties are being constructed which are solely accessible from this laneway. These properties need to have an address so we are proposing to name the laneway.

Donley Lane is proposed as an appropriate name as it has historical significance to the local area and it satisfies Landgate's standards for naming. Donley was the name of a family owned and run grocery store on the corner of Mabel and Norham Streets from 1922 to 1965. The name references a long standing family-run business and an institution of the early and mid 1990s - the corner grocery store.

The full history of the Donley family and the name's assessment against Landgate's criteria can be found in the road naming application form below.
