Beatty Park and City of Vincent Library closure

Beatty Park Leisure Centre and the City of Vincent Library closed today in response to the Federal Government's latest restrictions on social gatherings designed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday announced all gyms and sporting venues across Australia would have to close from midday on Monday 23 March.

“Until now, we were able to keep Beatty Park open through a stringent cleaning regime, monitoring patron numbers closely and making changes to things like class sizes and the spacing of equipment,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“But now the time has come to shut the doors of the centre while the whole country focuses on the issue of greatest importance - slowing the spread of coronavirus to save lives.”

“Our community and patrons have been so understanding and supportive. We all know how vital these closures are now.

“Beatty Park is a community hub. We have our regulars, friendships are formed here and there is a great camaraderie between staff and patrons – from the littlest ones in our swim school to our seniors who join to keep active and connected.

“We are currently looking into online options to keep these important connections going over the coming months.

“Our staff have been amazing in the face of these evolving changes and now closure. To our Manager Dale and all of the team, we are with you and we thank you.

“We will get through this and reopen, and it is important we support one another through these tough times”, said Mayor Emma Cole.

In addition to Premier Mark McGowan clarified this morning that the closure direction includes libraries, therefore the City of Vincent Library also closed at noon today. Further information will follow shortly regarding books on loan, homebound services and accessing the librarys online resources.
