Share your thoughts on FOGO

The City of Vincent will be moving to a three bin Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) Collection System from October 2020 and we want to know your thoughts.

What is FOGO?

FOGO stands for Food Organics Garden Organics and refers to the collection of food scraps, as well as natural material from your garden to create high quality compost.

Around 55 per cent of rubbish in our green topped bins is organic - food and garden waste. A FOGO bin system will have a major impact on diverting our rubbish from landfill and will be a great leap towards Vincent's ambitious target of zero waste to landfill by 2028.

How will it work?

A FOGO bin system will mean standard households will have three bins, with the addition of one lime green lid FOGO bin.

For people living in a unit or apartment complex where bins are shared, the City will determine how many of each of the three bins are required for your unit complex based on the size of the units and current bin usage.

Why is the City implementing FOGO?

The City has set itself a vision of sending zero waste to landfill by 2028 and removing organics from the rubbish bin is a big step towards this. At the 5th March meeting the City of Vincent Council approved a business case for a FOGO Collection System, with a proposed implementation date of October 2020.

In addition, under the State Government’s recently revised Waste Strategy 2030, all Councils will need to move to a three bin FOGO system by 2025. The City will therefore be one of the first Councils in WA to adopt a FOGO collection system - way ahead of the State target.

Share your thoughts

Over the coming year, we will consult with residents to seek their thoughts on the new system, identify any potential barriers and provide details on how the new FOGO system will work.

Visit Imagine Vincent to complete our online survey. This survey has been posted to a random selection of Vincent households - if you have already completed the survey online or via post, you do not need to submit again. The survey is also available to be completed in person at the City's Administration Centre (244 Vincent Street, Leederville) or it can be emailed on request.

Submissions close: 6 September 2019.
