Native Plant Sale returns in 2022

Keen gardeners wanting to spruce up their waterwise gardens will have the chance to select from thousands of tube stocks at the upcoming Native Plant Sale.

The City of Vincent’s bi-annual sale is returning to North Perth Common on April 2, from 8am to 11am.

The plants cost $1 for tube stock with a variety of species available, from ground covers and small shrubs to tall shrubs and climbers.

There will also be a limited number of larger Kangaroo Paws and small trees available at $5.

Mayor Emma Cole encouraged residents to plant natives to foster local biodiversity and establish biodiversity corridors throughout the City.

“With the cooler weather approaching, our popular Native Plant Sale is a prime opportunity for green thumbs to add to their gardens and verges and for new gardeners to start their waterwise journey,” she said.

“Native plants are perfect for the WA climate as they require less water to grow and are low maintenance.

“Our native plant selection is also incredibly beautiful, with a diverse choice of plants on offer.

“We are seeing more local gardens and verges becoming waterwise, which helps to improve our local environment and shows great support in our community for saving water.”

Horticulturalists will be on site to help keen gardeners choose their plants and provide information on how to care for the different species.

There is a limit of 20 plants per household, and sales are restricted to Vincent residents only.

Residents who signed up for the Adopt a Verge program can redeem their 20 free plants at the sale.

To keep this event COVID safe, attendees will need to register for a session.

Popular limited plants, such as kangaroo paws, will be available at each session.

Sessions include 8am to 9am, 9am to 10am and 10am to 11am.

“We are running the native plant sale in a COVID-safe way this year with three sessions,” Ms Cole said.

“We’ll make sure that there are plants available for all sessions, including kangaroo paws, so there’s no need to rush out of bed for the early session!”
