The City of Vincent worked with the Federal and State governments to bring their vision to life, upgrading the park with colourful murals, better lighting, native plants and new play equipment. The bulk of the work is now done, with the finishing touches expected to be completed this week.

“The people who live near Lynton Street Reserve could see the potential to transform this park into something special for the community,” said Mayor Emma Cole. “We listened to their suggestions and I am so happy we’ve been able to work with the Federal and State governments to overhaul the park and turn it into a really beautiful space.

“We’ve installed new lighting to make the reserve even safer, which was an important element of the community submission. “We have also added a picnic table, parkour equipment and informal nature play elements to encourage kids to play creatively and freely in this re-vamped space.”

Artist Susan Respinger helped brighten up the park with a mural featuring two large hands in the shape of a heart, which she painted on her friend’s wall to inspire people during the COVID-19
lockdowns. 

The City also worked with the Water Corporation to have a mural installed on a pump station adjoining the park through the utility’s Splash of Colour program. Artist and Mount Hawthorn local Pippa Scheepers was inspired the flora and fauna at nearby Lake Monger when she created the piece. 

The Water Corporation put an extra $5000 towards a new fence and native plantings on their land at the site.

The City also secured a $10,000 Federal Government Communities Environment Program grant through Patrick Gorman MP to help install native plants and the nature play equipment.
