The City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre is expanding its online services to keep our community entertained and connected during this time of social distancing.

There’s never been a better time to explore the library’s virtual shelves and bury yourself in an eBook or eAudiobook.

Library staff are working hard to stay connected with the community online, with plans to launch virtual baby rhyme time and virtual story time for kids through social media.

A virtual LEGO club has already kicked off, with kids invited to submit their creations on Facebook or through Instagram using the hashtag #vincentlibrarylegoclub

A virtual book club is in the works for adults, as well as guides for meditation and yoga and doit- yourself content that will feature craft, gardening and cooking.

The library is also looking to extend its books on wheels delivery service for seniors and people with disability. Those who sign up for the service will have a bag of handpicked and cleaned books delivered to their doorstep every three weeks, as well as items like DVDs and CDs.

Our Local History librarians are online and are still available to answer all of your questions about the history of your family, home, street or neighbourhood.

“The doors to our Library and Local History Centre had to close in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean our community has to go without books and stories,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“We have heaps of online services to keep adults and kids entertained at home – from eBooks to eAudiobooks, eMagazines and video streaming.

“Through the tough times of physical distancing it is important that we do all we can to prevent social isolation. Your favourite librarians will continue to stay engaged with you through Facebook and Instragram and by phone and email for advice, too.

“I encourage all Vincent residents to jump on the library’s website or Facebook page and start exploring.”

Those with a library membership can access tens of thousands of online items through the State Library of Western Australia.

Anyone who is not already a library member can join online and use their membership number to access the digital collection.

The Vincent library website features a list of apps and instructions on how to use them. The apps are:

• Libby, by OverDrive for accessing eBooks and eAudiobooks.
• Bolinda BorrowBox for accessing eBooks and eAudiobooks.
• RBDigital for accessing eMagazines.
• Kanopy for accessing video streaming.

For kids, the library also provides access to the Story Box Library and Busythings websites.

All Vincent library loans have been extended to June 30 and reservations have been suspended until the building re-opens.
