Consultation on a permanent Hyde Park Kiosk

An unused storage shed in Hyde Park could be converted into a permanent kiosk to help fuel the many locals and visitors who flock to the iconic green space year-round.

The City of Vincent will consult with community members to find out whether they want to see a brick and tile shed in the much-loved park transformed into a kiosk.

Upgrades to the 32m2 western storage shed, located near the water playground, could see it transformed into a kiosk that sells coffee, baked goods, fresh food and sandwiches.

The City would be responsible for the upgrade but the kiosk would be commercially operated.

“The idea of a kiosk in Hyde Park has been floated with our community in the past,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“We’ve since invited food trucks into Hyde Park, which has been well received, but thought the timing was right to see if a bricks and mortar kiosk may be a better long-term solution.

“We want to know whether people would welcome a kiosk and if they might like to see this in addition to, or as an alternative to, food trucks.

“Hyde Park is Vincent’s most iconic park, loved by locals and visitors alike. It’s our aim to enhance the experience for people who visit and encourage them to keep coming back.”

As part of the consultation process, the City will also ask for feedback on healthy food options being provided at the potential kiosk and by food trucks.

Earlier this year, the City replaced the tired and worn-out toilets at the eastern side of Hyde Park as part of its public toilet renewal program.

If a kiosk were to go ahead, the upgrade works would include a refurbishment of the existing toilet facilities to the west of the park, near the playground.
