Forward Bound: a roving exhibition program

Past Event

We're proud to sponsor Forward Bound - a roving exhibition program!
Interwoven: Banksia is a collaborative exhibition from artists Leah Vlatko and Ash Frost, that shares responses to banksias through textiles and illustrations grounded in place and friendship, with interactive works that ask you to respond to your own love of banksia.
This exhibition will be open daily from 10am - 4pm with the official FREE closing event with refreshments and live music from 6pm - 8pm on Friday 15 January.
Leah Vlatko will be running a FREE drop in workshop from 10am - 4pm on Saturday 16 Jan suitable for all ages (little ones will need adult supervision).
Leah Vlatko is a textile artist and high school teacher living and working on Yamatji country in Jambinu (Geraldton). Leah works mainly in crochet, which she learnt initially from her Nana and developed in quiet moments with cups of tea. Exhibiting frequently in Whadjuk/ Perth, and running workshops around regional WA, her greatest achievement to date has been hosting a ridiculous and wonderful Canine Couture fashion show collaborating with other artists to create one-of-a-kind dog coats. Working slowly is central to Leah's pieces, which explore themes of the natural environment and healing.
Ash Frost is a Mid North Coast NSW based artist and arts worker with a soft spot for the South West of WA after spending time working with communities and artists. With a community arts background, Ash works very collaboratively and is happiest exploring themes and stories with others. Her work explores themes that are of current interest to her, and she thinks of her works as unfinished inventories. This is often objects found, drawings, and paintings that reproduce familiar scenes to her, like fruits in summer, faces she knows or banksia bush landscapes.
The Art Garage 191 is wheel chair accessible. There is parking and public transport in and around Mount Hawthorn.
