Anzac Day March and Service

The City of Vincent, in partnership with Returned Services League of Western Australia Mount Hawthorn Sub-Branch invites you to the 2018 Anzac Day March and Service. 

The March will step off at 10.40am on the corner of Flinders and Scarborough Beach Road, and continue down Scarborough Beach Road to Axford Park, on the corner of Oxford Street. 
The Service will commence at 11.00am at Axford Park, Mt Hawthorn. 

Everyone is welcome to stay after the Service concludes for the Mt Hawthorn RSL Sausage Sizzle, with your gold coin donation helping the RSL Veterans and their families plus the RSL Mt Hawthorn community and schools support programs. 

Thank you to all past and present members of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces and their families and friends, staff and volunteer of organisations who give their time to support our veterans.

 Thomas Leslie “Jack” Axford

Celebrating Mount Hawthorn Victoria Cross recipient Thomas Leslie Axford and 100 years since the end of World War One.

Thomas Leslie (Jack) Axford, was one of only 17 Western Australians to receive a Victoria Cross. He had been awarded a military medal for bravery in the field in May 1918, followed by the Victoria Cross for ‘most conspicuous bravery and initiative during operations the Battle of Hammel in France in June 1918.  He was 24 years old.

Following his marriage to Lily Foster Tom lived at 12 Harrow Street, Mount Hawthorn from 1929 until his death in 1983, aged 89. He was recognised by the City of Perth during his lifetime, with the naming of Axford Park in 1982. The first Anzac Day service held in Axford Park was in 2000 when a plaque commemorating Thomas Leslie Axford was unveiled.
