Verge Collections

In March 2020, the bulk waste verge collection that was scheduled to begin on 20 April was postponed until further notice due to public health concerns regarding COVID-19. More information about this decision can be found here.

On 5 May, Council re-evaluated the situation and approved the bulk hard waste collection service to commence starting on 20 July 2020. Please note that this date is subject to change resulting from further COVID-19 restrictions.

The new dates for this year's bulk hard waste verge collection are shown below.

Collection Guidelines

Important COVID-19 guidelines

Due to the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, the removal of any material by third parties is strongly discouraged.

Items cannot be put out for collection earlier than the weekend prior to the date collection is due to commence in your area. This will help ensure the health and safety of residents and our collection contractors.

General guidelines

All material left out for collection must be kept clear of reticulation, footpaths, street signs, poles and fences.

In locations where your verge is very small or consisting of footpaths only, waste is to be put out as close to commencement of collection as possible so any footpath obstruction is kept to a minimum.

Waste collection is a major cost for the City of Vincent. Failure to comply with the above conditions may result in your waste not being collected, or possibly an infringement. If we do not collect an item from your verge, we’ll let you know why via a flyer in your letterbox.

What we will collect:

  • General household junk - bicycles, lounges, cupboards, televisions, computers, toys, plastic products etc.
  • Material less than 1.5m (5ft) in length
  • The following are collected by our recycling team, please keep separate
    • White goods – doors removed from refrigerators
    • Mattresses
    • E-waste, such as televisions and computers

What we will not collect:

  • Green waste, lawn clippings, prunings etc.
  • General household rubbish (food waste)
  • Household hazardous waste - paints, chemicals, oils, batteries etc
  • Material longer than 1.5m in length
  • Piles that exceed 1.5m in height
  • Construction/demolition materials including, but not limited to, sand, rubble and bricks
  • Asbestos and/or concrete products
  • Tyres or motor vehicle parts
  • Junk put out on the verge after the collection commencement date
  • Items placed outside commercial businesses or vacant lots

Please note:

  • The height of the pile on your verge must not exceed 1.5m
  • Metal (including white goods), e-waste (including televisions, computers, printers, stereos, cables etc.) and mattresses are to be placed in a separate pile so they can be collected separately and recycled

All items collected, except scrap metal, e-waste and mattresses are taken directly to landfill. Residents are encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible before placing items out for bulk verge collection. Check out the A-Z Recycling Guide for correct disposal and recycling locations.

In addition to the City’s existing general bulk waste verge collection, Vincent residents can also use a paid pick-up service for mattresses and white goods - these items will be recycled!
