Vehicle Security
By following these simple ‘Car Safe’ steps (as recommended by the Police) you can help avoid the risk of becoming a target for thieves (www.carsafe.com.au):
- Make sure your vehicle is locked and windows closed before you leave, even if you’re only going to be gone a few minutes.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car, and especially ensure that property left in the car is not visible to passers-by. Remove all CDs, money and bags from the car when you leave it.
- If you must leave valuables in the car, put them out of sight. Do this before you have reached your destination – thieves have been known to target vehicles after seeing people move valuables to their boot.
- Be aware of where you are parking. At home, park your car off the street, preferably in the yard or car port. At night, always park in a well-lit parking area.
- Report any suspicious behaviour to Police (131 444 non-emergency), providing as detailed a description of persons, vehicles, registration numbers etc as possible.
