Disability Access & Inclusion

The City of Vincent is committed to ensuring that services, events, buildings, facilities and information provision within its control are accessible to all members of the community. This includes meeting the specific requirements of people with disability, carers, seniors, children, parents and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The City recognises that all residents and visitors contribute to the social, economic and cultural life of the community.

These principles are encompassed in the City's motto "Enhancing and Celebrating our Diverse Community".

New Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2017-2022

The City has recently produced a new Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) for the period 2017-2022. The purpose of the DAIP is to develop and implement strategies that ensure people with disability can equally participate and be included in their community.

DAIP's assist public authorities to strategically plan and implement improvements to access and inclusion across seven (7) outcome areas including:

Outcome One: Services and Events
Outcome Two: Buildings and Facilities
Outcome Three: Information and Communication
Outcome Four: Quality Service
Outcome Five: Complaints Mechanism
Outcome Six: Consultation Processes
Outcome Seven: Employment

An additional eighth outcome area has been voluntarily included with the City's DAIP, based upon stakeholder feedback:

Outcome Eight Policy and Procedures

The process of developing the new DAIP 2017-2022 has been conducted in accordance with the requirements set out in the Disability Services Act 1993 (amended 2004), in collaboration with a highly experienced disability consultant. The strategies included in the plan have been derived from significant community consultation during the review period.

The DAIP 2017-2022 was endorsed by Council on 30 May 2017 and has recently been lodged with the Disability Services Commission.
