The City of Vincent will be launching its revised Youth Action Plan 2023-2026 as part of its Youth Week celebrations in April.

The plan sets out key priority actions and deliverables for the next three years.

Some actions include providing youth-friendly spaces for people to connect and engage, creating leadership opportunities for young people and identifying opportunities to support and promote the mental health and wellbeing of younger members of our community people.

Vincent works closely with youth organisations such as Dismantle, Aranmore Catholic College, Constable Care, Foyer Oxford, the Youth at Risk Network and the Freedom Centre to deliver the actions in the Youth Action Plan.

“We have a collaborative funding agreement with the Y HQ (YMCA WA), where they run mental health and wellbeing programs, music events and life skills workshops including barista training, employment and study pathways,” said Acting Mayor Susan Gontaszewski.

“Community organisations supporting young people lease our facilities at heavily subsidised community rates, including the Mt Hawthorn Toy Library, Leederville Toy Library, The Y, Rainbow Community House, eight sporting clubs and three playgroups.

“Each year, we invite Aboriginal students from Aranmore Catholic College to join the team at Vincent as trainees to build their work experience with the hope they will explore a career in local government.”

Vincent is celebrating Youth Week from 14 – 21 April.

Events will include skate sessions, live band performances, a three-day music workshop, craft activities, a sundowner and a film screening.

“Youth Week is one of our biggest event programs of the year and it’s a time where we can connect with young people and provide opportunities for them to learn something new and simply have fun,” said Ms Gontaszewski.

“Our young people will be spoiled for choice throughout our Youth Week celebrations this year.”
