Bunuru - Noongar Six Seasons with Marissa Verma
Marissa Verma will lead this Noongar Six Season session of Bunuru - hosted by the City of Vincent. During this session, she will share information about how the Noongar locals traditionally live at this time of year.
Bunuru runs from February to March, and is considered the second summer. It is the hottest time of the year, with little to no rain, and sees the local people traditionally enjoy life by the coast. Because of this, seafood and fresh water foods make up a large part of the diet consumed by the locals.
Jarrah, Marri, and Ghost Gums are prominent during Bunuru, along with the blooming of the white flowers. The female Zamia (Macrozamia riedlei) is also striking during this time of year, as the huge cones emerge from the centre of the plant with masses of a cotton wool like substance. These cones change from green to red as the hot, dry weather continues.
