Ratepayers, residents and businesses are invited to participate in the City’s annual Greening Vincent Garden Competition, which has been held since Vincent became Vincent – back in 1995!

All entrants, their partners and our sponsors will be invited to a function at Vincent’s Administration & Civic Centre on Wednesday 15 November at 6.00pm, where the awards will be presented by Mayor Emma Cole - a great night!

All Vincent properties can enter (except staff and contractors – please read full conditions below to see if you are eligible).

Entries in the 2017 Garden Competition close Friday 29 September!

Happy gardening!

The awards this year will be presented in the following categories:

  • Best Courtyard or Balcony Garden
  • Best Residential Rear Garden

Judging Process

Preliminary judging will be undertaken by the City's Green Team between 2 - 6 October.  Preliminary judging for the Catchment Friendly Garden will be undertaken by Claise Brook Catchment Group (CBCG) members, the Parks Services Technical Officer and the Project Officer – Parks & Environment.

Final judging will take place on Saturday 7 October and will be undertaken by Vincent Councilors, Director Technical Services, Manager Parks & Property Services, Adele Gismondi  from the Water Corporation and Matt Molloy and Mary Boyce (2016 winner – Best Residential Front Garden and Best Vegetable or 'Food' Garden).

What are we looking for this year?

In keeping with the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability and waterwise principles, for each category all entries will be judged against waterwise criteria such as use of native plants, mulch, water saving measures and demonstrated controlled use of fertilisers and pesticides.

Given the development happening in Vincent in our amazing town centres, we've added a new category for Best Business Garden - we're keen to see the lovely creative green spaces you work so hard to create for our residents and visitors!
