Car Parking in North Perth Town Centre

Published on Thursday, 4 May 2017 at 12:00:00 AM

In November 2016 we wrote to residents, property owners and business operators in North Perth, seeking feedback on proposed parking changes that were intended to improve the supply of parking in and around the North Perth town centre.

We received 110 submissions on the proposed parking changes and in response to that feedback, Council has decided to:

Introduce five hour (5P) parking on streets located further from the Town Centre;
Modify the proposed two hour (2P) parking to three hour (3P) parking throughout the area;
Introduce first hour free parking in both the View and Wasley Street Car Parks;
Reduce the all-day fee in both the View and Wasley Street Car Parks from $17.20 to $14.60 until June 2018; and
Reduce the cost of purchasing a commercial parking permit from $1736 to $868 until June 2018.
The parking restriction map can be accessed here which was adopted by Council at its meeting on 7 March 2017. The Council minutes for this meeting can be accessed here.

We will soon be installing signs and line marking in all affected streets and car parks to implement the new parking restrictions. All businesses and residents will have the opportunity to obtain commercial and residential parking permits from the City before the restrictions come into effect.

Commercial Parking Permit

Commercial parking permits allow business owners and employees to park in areas where there are parking restrictions. Permits are valid for one year from the date they are issued and need to be renewed annually.

If you would like to obtain a commercial parking permit please visit the following page here and submit the online form by 1 June 2017. This will ensure your application is processed in time so that you receive your permits before the parking restrictions come into effect.

There is a cost for commercial parking permits and we understand that this may impact on business owners. To assist with the transition business owners who want commercial parking permits will have a reduced fee of $868 until 30 June 2018.

Residential Parking Permit

If you already have a parking permit it will still apply under the new restrictions and you should continue to display it like normal. If you don’t currently have a parking permit and would like to get one please visit the following page here and submit the online form by 1 June 2017. This will ensure your application is processed in time so that you receive your permits before the parking restrictions come into effect.

Although the signs will be in place, the parking restrictions will not be enforced until 1 July 2017 to allow for the processing and issuing of residential parking permits.
