Vincent secures funding for the future of Litis Stadium

The City of Vincent will be moving ahead with a new multi-sports changeroom facility and clubroom upgrade at Litis Stadium thanks to funding from the Australian Government.

The stadium is the home ground of the Floreat Athena Football Club and the Vincent City Ducks gridiron team, while the adjacent Britannia Reserve is also used by both clubs along with the Leederville Cricket Club, North Perth United Soccer Club and local schools.

Council endorsed the Britannia North West Reserve Development Plan in November 2021, which provides for a changeroom facility to be constructed on the former grandstand footprint.

The former grandstand was structurally unsound and no longer safe for public use.

In late April, Vincent secured $3 million in funding from the Australian Government.

The project involves the construction of a 365sqm publicly accessible and female-friendly changeroom that will meet Football West’s National Premier League venue requirements, universal design standards and requirements.

It also includes the refurbishment of the clubroom currently leased by Floreat Athena.

Refurbishment works will look to include roof repairs, bathroom, kitchen and bar upgrades, new flooring, windows and painting, LED lights, audio-visual equipment, CCTV camera system and solar panels.

Vincent will soon start a tender process for the works, with construction expected to start in late 2023.

“Over the past eight years, Vincent has worked collaboratively with Floreat Athena on how to future-proof Litis Stadium for the club and the community,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“We would like to thank the Australian Government for providing us with significant funding to bring this project to life, after a lengthy process.

“Together with the club and the Australian Government, we have signed the funding agreement and are looking forward to delivering a modern, high quality multi-sports changeroom at the former grandstand site for our wider community.”

Ms Cole said Vincent consulted the community on a concept design for the changeroom in 2021 and worked closely with Floreat Athena to refine the concepts into the current changeroom design.

“Once the upgrades are completed, Litis Stadium will grow even stronger as a thriving community hub that is not only used by sporting clubs, but also local community groups and residents,” she said.

“The upgrades will also go a long way to increase female participation in sports at the stadium.”

Mr Gorman said the $3 million in funding ended “years of frustration, lack of transparency, and uncertainty for the community”.

“Since that time the City of Vincent and Floreat Athena Football Club have worked closely with the Australian Government and I am pleased to see this project will proceed to support the growth of soccer in the community,” he said.

The overall stadium upgrade is expected to be completed by late 2025.
