Works on the Mt Hawthorn Youth Skate Space commenced this week.

The 350-square metre small-scale facility will cater for young skaters and be built on the northwest corner of the reserve, just north of the basketball ring and adjacent to the new multi-sports changeroom facility currently under construction.

Designed in consultation with local families and members of the skate community, the space will be perfect for kids, youth and inexperienced skaters.

It will include of a range of street and transition elements, including quarter pipes, banks, rails, ledges, tabletop and a mini ramp, designed for developing and honing the skills of entry level skaters.

All trees in the area will be retained as part of the project.

Council agreed to change the previously endorsed location from adjacent to the pump track in December 2023 due to issues with the site.

Construction works started in May and will be complete in June 2024.

A temporary fence is currently placed around the site.

The community mulch pile will be moved to the eastern side of Litis Stadium, next to the Tools n Things Library. Entry is from the Britannia Road car park.

There will be some noise during the works, which will happen on weekdays from 7am – 5pm. Some car bays will be closed during construction.

More than half of the funding for this project will be provided by the Department of Communities as part of an election commitment from Hon. John Carey MLA, State Member for Perth.
