A floor mural inspired by North Perth's multicultural community can now be spotted along the City of Vincent's new temporary shared space, Shortcut Lane.

Perth artist Tessa Dorotich is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who has a background in community development.

Dorotich was tasked with painting a floor mural as part of Vincent's Shortcut Lane: Pop-Up Event Series project.

This transformative project will see one side of the area from View Street carpark to the Rosemount Hotel carpark converted into a temporary pedestrian-friendly shared space.

The mural starts from North Perth Common and flows into the two carparks.

It includes shades of orange, yellow and pink, which are also the colours of the neighbouring North Perth Common.

“I am delighted to be on board with the City of Vincent's project, which encourages a safe passageway and use of pedestrian areas in the View Street Car Park,” said Dorotich.

“My mural celebrates the local residents, many of which are of Australian, Italian and Vietnamese descent.

“My design includes organic shapes and subject matter which will provide contrast with the asphalt and largely urban environment and surroundings, encouraging the viewer to consider alternative forms of transport with a reduced environmental impact like walking.

“I am very excited to be working alongside the City of Vincent to deliver this project in my local area.”

Dorotich’s past murals include a leafy mural at Two Green Men in North Perth, a sport and dog-walking themed piece at Enright Reserve in Hamilton Hill and a pop-up at Yagan Square which celebrated Melbourne Football Club’s 2021 AFL Grand Final appearance.

She has also helped fellow artists Sioux Tempestt and Kardy Kreations to paint the 80m FIFA Women's World Cup 2023TM mural at Dorrien Gardens.

The Shortcut Lane: Pop-Up Event Series is supported by RAC.
