Local History Centre


Visit the Local History Centre located inside the Vincent Library. Dedicated to preserving, documenting and celebrating the history of Vincent, the Centre holds a treasure trove of information about the suburbs and characters of Vincent.


The Local History Centre is open:

Monday to Thursday: 9:00am - 1:00pm

By appointment: 2:00pm - 5:00pm


Come in and explore our community’s past, discover your family’s ancestry or research the history of your house.

The Centre hosts regular events, workshops, talks and tutorials.  Check the News & Events page for up-coming dates and times.  Bookings are required.

Local History Awards

Each year the Local History Awards are run to encourage community participation in the collection and entry of historical information relating to Vincent.  Visit the Local History Awards page for more information and to view previous winners.  Entries close at the end of August each year.

Trace Your Family History

Are you passionately researching your family tree?  Come to the Local History Centre for free access to the following databases:

  • Ancestry Library Edition
  • Find my past: Australia & New Zealand
  • Find my past: UK 
  • Find my past: Ireland

Family researchers are welcome to come in and search for unlimited time when the Local History Centre is open. Access is also available at the public terminals in the main Library with a one hour limit at other times.

Expert help from experienced family history researchers is available at certain times by appointment.

We also run workshops on researching your family history. Check thNews & Events pages for up-coming dates and times. Bookings are required.

Can you help?

The success of creating this collection depends very much on contributions from past and current residents, businesses, groups and organisations. Any donations of photographs, yearbooks, programmes, diaries, letters or memorabilia would be greatly appreciated. If you do not wish to part with items we would be happy for the opportunity to copy them and return your originals.
Local groups, such as sporting groups, are encouraged to deposit their newsletters, records, scrapbooks, etc, with the collection
