The new Oxford Street Reserve

The new Oxford Street Reserve key features

• Extend the park to the north (up to ‘Cranked’) and close access into the carpark from Oxford Street
• A unique and interesting children’s nature play area, fenced and extended with creative play equipment
• Planting 60 additional trees (net gain of 60 trees)
• Additional raised and shaded seating area that provides an uninterrupted view of the play area (for parents to relax with a coffee)
• Existing large Canary Island date palm retained as a focal point, with new landscaping and seating, plus 60 additional trees planted
• Working with YMCA HQ to remove the fence around the skate park to create a free and open skate space for everyone
• Develop the southern end of the park as an active urban play area with a bocce pit, outdoor ping pong and chess tables
• 45-degree angle parking bays retained and plantings to screen off the carpark and freeway
• Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) principles to ensure the park is open, well lit and safe

Town centre enhancements already achieved

• Six new mature spotted gum trees planted on the Oxford Street median strip
• Seven new street trees planted between Cranked and Ria (Jacarandas)
• ‘Fairy’ lighting in the big trees at the Carr Street junction (more budgeted for this year)
• Mural in the alley next to ‘Unison’ on Oxford Street by Yok, Sheryo and Graphite Crew
• A fun new ‘cadillac’ bike rack (outside Fibber McGees) as part of our ‘alternative uses for car bays’ scheme
• Also part of this scheme: Perth’s first New-York style pop-up ‘Parklet’ – free public spaces for everyone
• Free WiFi for Leederville’s busy public open spaces in the town centre
• We’ve added five new drinking/water filling stations around the town centre (working with the Water Corporation)
