Vincent Students Bring Christmas Cheer

Vincent students have once again captured the magic of Christmas in beautiful artworks that will be on display on main streets in Mount Hawthorn and North Perth during the festive season.

Each year, the City invites students from Vincent primary schools to create artworks inspired by the festive season as part of the Spirit of Christmas banner artwork competition.

Schools can enter up to 10 of their best drawings, paintings, collages or digital pieces, which go before a judging panel that includes City of Vincent Mayor Emma Cole and Chief Executive Officer David MacLennan.

Twenty-two entries were chosen to be displayed on banner poles that run down the middle of Scarborough Beach Road in Mount Hawthorn and Fitzgerald Street in North Perth.

“Celebrating the students who have won our Spirit of Christmas banner competition at their school assemblies is always a joyful experience,” said Mayor Cole.

“I know they get such a huge thrill from seeing their artwork blown up on a big banner and displayed in their community and the smiles and high fives from their classmates are just so good to see.

“The students put so much care and creativity into their artworks they always manage to capture perfectly the spirit of the festive season here in Vincent.

“A lot of the artworks capture our unique local Christmas experience, for example Sam from North Perth Primary School with his piece showing Santa playing electric guitar as if he’s on stage at the Rosemount.

“The quality of the entries is always incredibly high and this year was no exception, so we definitely had our work cut out for us with the judging.

“Our tradition of celebrating Christmas with art from our local students brings festive cheer into our community as our kids count down the days until Christmas.”

This year’s entries included wonderful Australian-themed scenes and traditional Christmas scenes, as well as references to COVID-19 and the Black Summer bushfires.

The winners will get the chance to keep their banners after the festive season.
