Vincent Street (between William and Beaufort streets) Speed Reduction

The City of Vincent is seeking feedback on a proposal to reduce the speed limit from 60km/h to 40km/h on Vincent Street, from the intersection of William Street to Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley.

Since 2018, the City of Vincent proposed a 40km/h speed zone trial within our southern suburban residential areas to study the impact of slower speed limits.

This trial concluded with an independent report back to Council, funded by the Office of Road Safety, with findings demonstrating that:

  • 13 per cent increase in resident support for the trial
  • 21 per cent increase in the perception of improved liveability
  • 34 per cent being more likely to choose walking or riding over local car trips.

The trial area has now become permanent with other sections within North Perth, bringing the total percentage of Local Roads slowed to 40km/h to 40%.

The remaining 60% of Local Roads which is currently defaulted to 50km/h is currently with Main Roads WA for a decision to slow to 40km/h, with feedback expected later in the year.

This new 40k/h proposal for a section of Vincent Street, extending from the existing 40km/h stretch alongside Hyde Park, would allow a continuous and slower speed as vehicles approach the activity centre.

If there is community support for this section of Vincent Street to be slowed to 40km/h, the City of Vincent will apply to Main Roads WA for approval to reduce the speed limit. For information and to have your say, visit Imagine Vincent.
