From book shops to gelato stores, businesses across Vincent are giving back to the community and ensuring healthcare workers, educators and vulnerable people are taken care of.
It may be tough times for local business owners, but that hasn’t stopped many of them from selflessly donating meals, coffees and books to people who may be in need of a pick-me-up.
The team behind Galangal Thai Cuisine have delivered more than 450 meals to people on the frontline through their emergency workers campaign.
They’ve been making a meal for emergency service workers every time they get a takeaway order, with customers able to send a message of support with the food.
They hope the meals will remind emergency service workers how much the community values the efforts and sacrifices they are making for people across the State.
Gusto Gelato have been delivering donated tubs of delicious gelato to staff in hospitals and clinics, giving our healthcare heroes reasons to smile after their long shifts.
Precision Development Management bought 50 coffees from Lupo Lab, which were given away to medical workers, emergency services and teachers in need of a caffeine hit.
When a doctor popped into Beaufort Street Books, the owner handed over 30 books for the hardworking team at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital emergency department.
The Wellness Studio introduced a pay it forward system, putting the cost of initial consultations towards adjustments for people who needed treatment but could not afford it due to COVID-19.
There have been discounts on shoes for medical staff at Tredways Shoes and fashion label ILKA has been raising money to produce scrubs for medical staff, hospital workers and carers.
“These are just a few examples of the incredible generosity being shown by local businesses during the pandemic,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
“Business owners have had to change the way they do things as they adapt to the COVID-19 restrictions, but that hasn’t stopped them from looking out for other people.
“It is amazing that after everything they have been through they are still turning their minds to giving back to the community.
“We also want to acknowledge all of the businesses that are doing their best to stay afloat during the pandemic.
“These are really tough times for local businesses owners and I’d encourage everyone in the community to shop local as much as possible.”

The City made its own donation to organisations that support vulnerable people after Beatty Park Leisure Centre closed in response to COVID-19 restrictions. Food from the onsite café, including croissants, bread, snacks, pasta and rice and drinks, were donated to Foyer Oxford, Passages Youth Engagement Hub and Nyoongar Outreach Services.
