One new playground and another on the way

Vincent kids will soon have two new nature-inspired playgrounds to explore in parks in Perth and North Perth.

The old playground at Gladstone Street Reserve has been replaced with new play equipment featuring nature-inspired wooden elements.

Kids can now enjoy a basket swing, climbing tower and a double slide, as well as a rubber soft fall surface and new shade sails.

With the Gladstone Street Reserve playground completed, the City of Vincent is getting to work on overhauling the play equipment at Les Lilleyman Reserve.

The new playground at Les Lilleyman Reserve will also include wooden elements and is due to be completed in early November.

It will feature a climbing tower, tunnel slide and double swing with an all-abilities swing seat.

The surface will be mix of rubber soft fall and sand, and a new homestead-style fence will be installed to match the existing park fencing.

“The old playgrounds at Gladstone Street Reserve and Les Lilleyman Reserve were more than 20 years old and in need of a revamp,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“When we consulted our community we were asked for more contemporary nature-style playgrounds, which our local kids are loving at Braithwaite Park, and adults really wanted to see shade sails at Gladstone Street Reserve.

“We had lots of requests for climbing equipment at Gladstone Street Reserve, while a traditional swing was the top choice for Les Lilleyman Reserve.

“This community feedback formed the basis of the new playground designs and we will now have two playgrounds which offer different play options for both little ones and older kids.

“We’ve also included an all-abilities swing at Les Lilleyman Reserve and a nest swing at Gladstone Street Reserve to help make our playgrounds more accessible.”

The City looks after 46 playgrounds across Vincent.

New exercise equipment will be installed at Menzies Park next month, including four new stations and calisthenics-style equipment with elements for people of all abilities.

The Forrest Park exercise equipment will also be replaced with a combination of mixed functional pieces and calisthenics-style equipment.

A combined fitness hub will be created on the corner of Harold and Curtis streets and two smaller fitness stations will be installed on the corner of Walcott and Curtis streets and east of the pavilion.
