Leederville will receive 33 new Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras thanks to the WA Police State CCTV Strategy.
In 2016, the City was awarded $250,000 to install 33 new CCTV cameras within the Leederville Town Centre. These cameras will be installed across 10 locations and all will be operational by the end of September.
“The 33 new, high definition cameras will replace and expand the existing aged network of 8 cameras and provide the local community, businesses and visitors to Leederville a safer place to live, work and connect,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
“The installation of these new cameras is very timely as community safety has been top of mind in Leederville. We've been talking with our community throughout our Imagine Vincent community engagement campaign, and local businesses have been asking for more CCTV to create a stronger sense of safety in our vibrant town centres” she said.
“As a grant recipient of the WA Police State CCTV Strategy Infrastructure Fund, we have worked in partnership with local police and state authorities to deliver this project. These important relationships will benefit the City of Vincent as we continue to tackle community safety issues together” said Mayor Cole.
WA Police Senior Sergent Julie Foley, said “As OIC of the Wembley Police Station it has been great to work together with the City of Vincent on such an important project. The use of CCTV is an important investigative tool, assisting police in the identification of offenders and is also a deterrent for criminal behaviour. Collaborative partnerships such as these are very effective to ensure our community is a safer and more secure place to be.”
