Let’s chat about engagement

The City of Vincent’s desire to give its community members the strongest possible input into its decision making is the catalyst for a new Community Engagement Framework.

The draft Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and Policy are set to become crucial guides for how the City speaks with and listens to the Vincent community.

The framework clearly identifies how and when the City will consult with the community and is designed to foster connection and engagement across Vincent.

“Our Community Engagement Framework will improve our information sharing and further strengthen our relationships with community members,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“Meaningful, effective and local engagement is vital in understanding how we can get the best outcomes for our community.

“We want the people of Vincent to be involved in our decision making and to have their voices heard on the issues that impact them.

“When we’re aware of our community’s feelings, experiences and aspirations we can better reflect our community’s vision in the decisions we make.”

The draft strategy outlines the City’s vision for community engagement, giving context for why it is so important and providing an action plan for the future.

Actions include a review of the modes of engagement we use, the creation of a toolkit to guide engagement and more localised and tailored engagement to suit the community members we need to reach.

The draft policy has been developed in conjunction with the strategy, and outlines the principles that will guide the way the City engages.

The City has launched a face-to-face, one stop group consultation involving eight important projects that will help shape the future of Vincent.

The group consultation – which covers everything from advertising billboards to where higher density development should happen in Leederville - highlights the importance of community engagement and the value that Vincent places on community feedback.

An open house engagement event for the group consultation will be held on Saturday 29 May at the City of Vincent Administration Centre from 9am – 12pm.

Community members can drop in at any point during the event and can speak to representatives from each of the project teams on a broad range of issues.

The projects included in the grouped consultation are:

Community and Stakeholder Engagement Framework

The City has developed a community engagement framework to clearly identify how to better engage with the community in the decision-making process.

Design Leederville

The Leederville Precinct Structure Plan and the Leederville Place Plan are two major strategic documents that will shape the future of Leederville, setting density and building heights, maintaining the character and scale of the high street, improving greening, pedestrian access and public open spaces.

Robertson Park Development Plan

The Robertson Park Development Plan proposes exciting new additions to the popular park, including multi-sport courts, community gardens, more green space and an enclosed dog exercise area.

Liveability Census

The City is taking part in the 2021 Liveability Census - Australia’s largest community-led social research project that captures what really matters to our communities.

Beaufort Street Town Centre Place Plan

The Beaufort Street Place Plan outlines the major initiatives to be implemented on Beaufort Street over the next four years, from electric vehicle stations to lighting up Mary Street Piazza and street upgrades.

Smoke-free Town Centres

Smoke-free town centres are being introduced in Vincent, with smoke-free boundaries proposed in Leederville, Mount Hawthorn, North Perth, Beaufort Street and William Street.

Vibrant Spaces Policy

Parklets are small pieces of City-owned land that have been transformed into public spaces. The City wants to know how people would like to see these spaces evolve in the future and whether they would welcome more permanent structures in the public realm.

Signs and Advertising Policy

The City is exploring the community appetite for maintaining an advertising billboard free zone as it looks to revisit its Signs and Advertising Policy. Currently this policy prohibits any third party billboard advertising across Vincent.
