BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

Leederville Gardens Inc.

Leederville Gardens Inc. is a registered charity, operating under a constitution and bound by the requirements of the Associations Incorporations Act 2015, Retirement Villages Act 1992 and related subsidiary legislation.

Leederville Gardens Retirement Estate (the Village) is located at 37 Britannia Road, Leederville and is owned by Leederville Gardens Inc.  The Village offers an independent living environment for over 55’s, with residency offered through lifetime lease agreements.  The Village was built in 1993 and provides a total of 66 residential units, comprising 50 Villas and 16 Atrium Apartments (www.leedervillegardens.com.au).

The Board has appointed Village Solutions Australia to provide day to day management of the Village, under the strategic direction of the Board.  In addition, the Board has appointed a Board Advisor and Board Secretary to assist in the management of the Association and Village.

Board of Management

The Board of Management is the governing body for Leederville Gardens Inc and comprises three (3) City of Vincent appointed members and three (3) resident elected community members.  The Chair of the Board is selected from the City appointed members. 

The role of the Board of Management is detailed in the Leederville Gardens Constitution.

The City is seeking a Director to fill a current vacancy on the Board

Eligibility

We’re looking for people who are interested in serving their community and providing effective and progressive management for this fantastic facility. Ideally, you should have some board experience – but for us, it’s all about drive and attitude and people who can complement the skills and add to the diversity on the Board.

Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest can be either a real, perceived or potential conflict between the personal or business interests of a Board Member and their duty to act in the interests of the public Association.

Board Members have a responsibility to act in good faith and avoid conflicts of interest.

An example of a material conflict of interest affecting a nomination for a Board Member position may include: being an owner or employee of a major supplier to Leederville Gardens Inc.

Term of Office

Board Members are appointed for a three (3) year term. 

Time Commitment

Generally, the commitment to the Board of Management is between six (6) and twelve (12) General Meetings per year, with the provision for strategic planning workshops and special meetings from time to time.

Board Members are expected to have read all the relevant Board Papers leading up to each meeting and to actively contribute at meetings. 

As a guide, meetings are generally held in the Clubrooms at the Village, commencing at 5pm for a duration of approximately two (2) hours.

The role of Board Director can require additional time commitment, liaising with the Board Advisor and Board Secretary.

Remuneration 

Board Membership is voluntary.  No remuneration is provided.

Nomination

The City of Vincent invites eligible candidates to nominate for a vacant Director of Board position.

Your application will be considered by the City of Vincent and, if your candidacy is recommended to the Board of Management, your name and a brief profile, based on the information you provide, will be disclosed to the City for endorsement.

Qualifications

The Board is looking for a Director who can provide skills and experience in the following areas –

  • Asset management
  • Finance / accounting
  • Grant writing / fundraising
  • Industry knowledge – Retirement Villages
  • Experience with not-for-profit organisations
