The City of Vincent is calling for community submissions to help build our 2018/2019 budget.
"Over the past two years we have asked our community to tell us their ideas for projects and initiatives as part of our annual budget planning and it has been extremely successful. Previously we advertised a draft budget at the end of the budget preparation process, which didn’t deliver a great deal of community feedback. We wanted a more engaging, community focused and driven approach so we decided to change our strategy and ask for ideas up front, which has seen much more community involvement,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
2017/18 submissions
During the 2017/18 community budget submissions the City received 55 individual community budget submissions raising 64 proposals for consideration, of these 45% were supported (fully or partly) for implementation in 2017/18 and a further 28% were deferred for consideration in later years.
One of the community budget submissions funded last year was the Give Way Park nature play area on the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and Anzac Road in Mt Hawthorn. The idea was put forward by local resident Anne Bate and the park redevelopment involved a team of five local community members, including Anne, a local landscape architect and City parks staff.
“The Give Way Park is wonderful example of what can be done when a team of community minded residents come together to make their neighbourhood a better place,” said Mayor Cole.
2018/19 submissions
“We welcome submissions from individuals or community groups and submitting an idea is easy; simply visit our website and lodge a submission online. All ideas will be assessed against our six strategic priorities, and selected ideas will be funded in next year’s budget,” said Mayor Cole.
The six strategic priorities for the 2018/19 budget are community-led and arose from the Imagine Vincent Strategic Community Plan engagement campaign conducted in the latter half of 2017 and include;
- Enhanced Environment
- Accessible City
- Connected Community
- Thriving Places
- Sensitive Design
- Innovative & Accountable
More information on these strategic priorities can be found on the online budget submission form.
Community Budget Submissions close 5pm Friday 13 April. To submit your idea, click below.
