The City of Vincent has been recognised as an exceptional place to work by Voice Project.

Voice Project has awarded the City of Vincent a Best Workplace Award for 2020.

The award recognises the workplaces which have excellent management practices and a highly engaged workforce.

This year, City of Vincent staff reported exceptional levels of engagement and satisfaction.

The City of Vincent exceeded the award criteria of scoring at least 10% higher on average than the Australian Local Government benchmark (Vincent averaged 13% above the benchmark).

Voice Project noted that only a small number of their clients meet this criteria.

The City has just completed its third annual employee engagement survey through Voice Project.

Alex Kashian, Senior Consultant at Voice Project, said it can be difficult to continue achieving big improvements year-to-year, particularly given we’re in the middle of a pandemic, but the City of Vincent is again seeing some big jumps.

He considered it particularly encouraging to see Vincent achieving notable improvements in practices that were identified as priority areas.

Teamwork (91%) was the highest scoring practice, which is indicative of the strong working relationships and support that exist between co-workers at the City of Vincent. The next highest rated areas were Talent (86%), Mission & Values (86%) and Ethics (86%).

Looking at the benchmark comparison, Vincent outperforms the Australian Council average on almost everything, but the biggest category level differences are Facilities (26% higher than the Councils average), Leadership (+21%), and Performance Appraisal (+21%).

The staff response to one question – whether the City of Vincent is innovative – was 32% above the Australian Council average.

Vincent’s lowest scoring area was Cross-Unit Cooperation (51%) although it was up 9% since last year. The other priority areas were Career Opportunities (54%), Remuneration & Recognition (55%), and Processes (56%).

These are common challenges for Councils but the City of Vincent is actually scoring above the benchmark on all but Remuneration & Recognition (which has scored the same as the benchmark).

The City of Vincent is committed to creating the best workplace possible for all its staff – and will keep making progress in these areas to ensure that the work environment of our staff continues to improve.
