The people of Perth can for the first time discover the best bars, restaurants, cafés, speciality retailers, events and experiences the Perth metro region has to offer, all in one online space.

Visitors to Visitperth.com are now able to explore each neighbourhood via map-based functionality, as well as browse the best events, things to see and do, shopping experiences or eating and drinking establishments for the entire inner city, giving unparalleled choice and options.

The initiative is the result of the Inner City Group partnership, with members from all five boundary-joined local governments of Perth, South Perth, Subiaco, Victoria Park and Vincent Councils.

The Inner City Group jointly plan and promote inner city attractions and hospitality hot spots via Visit Perth platforms, to boost visitation and support local businesses.

The collaboration has been made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the five local governments in 2019.

City of Perth Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said stakeholders have been suggesting for a long time that there is a fragmented approach to destination marketing in Perth.

“This collaboration brings together the entire inner-city experience, arguably Perth’s best, to be showcased under one unified platform, which is something never before achieved.”

Victoria Park Mayor Karen Vernon said the collaboration is a win for small businesses and the local economy.

“We know our target market goes beyond local government boundaries. The more we can do to dissolve these and work together, the better the outcomes for all our customers and businesses.”

South Perth Mayor Greg Milner said, “the collaboration is an innovative way for the member local governments to help promote and support local business and the local economy.”

Vincent Mayor Emma Cole said the collaboration was a positive for everyone after a particularly tough year.

“Our inner-city suburbs have so much to offer – from the most incredible bars and restaurants to expansive parks, boutique stores and independent cinemas,” she said.

“We’re joining forces to support the local business owners who have been on the economic frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic and help get people through their doors.

“There’s so much happening across our inner-city suburbs, and this map lays it all out for people to see.”

Mayor Penny Taylor said “this collaborative approach benefits the communities of all five councils.

“Our community has told us that vibrancy and activation of our town centre is a key priority for them.

“We’ve each got our own centres that we focus on individually, but people don’t experience them as individual destinations.

“Collectively we’re the exciting and attractive inner city – and by promoting that collaboratively we offer great appeal to the wider WA community, and all our communities benefit,” Mayor Taylor said.

Visit Perth is just one outcome which has resulted from the MoU of the Inner City Group so far, with many more joint projects in the pipeline.
