A draft place plan which supports festoon lighting in Mary Street Piazza, a more pedestrian friendly environment and the installation of fast-charging electric vehicle stations in the
Beaufort Street Town Centre is now open for community review.

Developed in collaboration with the City of Vincent’s local town team, the Beaufort Street Network, the Beaufort Street Town Centre Place Plan (BSTCPP) informs residents,
businesses, and visitors of the City’s plans for the next four years.

The draft plan recognises Beaufort Street as one of Perth’s most vibrant and creative spaces.

Loved by locals and visitors for its character, Beaufort Street is a unique mix of businesses and plentiful dining options.

The BSTCPP explores an opportunity for additional lighting along the popular precinct strip, as well as street furniture and improved cycling and pedestrian options.

It also includes formalising Beaufort Street from Lincoln street to Queens Crescent as a 40km/hr zone and to improve pedestrian safety along the strip.

Currently the only formalised crosswalks in the Town Centre is at the Beaufort and Walcott Street intersection.

Mayor Cole said the City was committed to creating and enhancing its town centres and encouraged locals to have their say on the draft Beaufort Street Town Centre Place Plan.

“Beaufort Street is undergoing a resurgence right now, with some very significant investment on the strip and new development and landmark venues in the works. It is a really exciting
time and cements Beaufort Street as a top Perth destination,” she said.

“The City of Vincent will continue our work to support Beaufort Street, making the public realm as inviting as possible.

"More lighting, a good pedestrian environment, continuation of public art and a welcoming streetscape is really important to keep people coming back to Beaufort Street.”

Key proposals of the BSTCPP:

  • Implement festoon lighting improvements in Mary Street Piazza – to increase vibrancy and feel of the piazza after sunset
  • Support the installation of fast-charging electric vehicle stations in the Beaufort Street Town Centre
  • Develop and implement a trial installation of a Containers for Change attachment for existing Beaufort Street Town Centre bins Plan improvements to the Beaufort Street pedestrian environment and investigate pedestrian crossing improvements on Beaufort Street
  • Main Roads to formalise 40km/h along Beaufort Street (between Lincoln Street and Queens Crescent)
  • Investigate options for existing mural maintenance and renewal

A draft version of the BSTCPP was prepared in mid 2020 and the draft actions and initiatives were workshopped with the Beaufort Street Network.

Based on feedback, the community are now invited to have their say on the draft BSTCPP at www.imagine.vincent.wa.gov.au
