Beatty Park 2018/2019 Update

Published on Thursday, 5 July 2018 at 5:44:23 PM

We had a tough finish to 2017/18 with the geothermal bore breaking down late in the year but on a positive note we managed to turn around the recent 3 year decline in membership sales and get it heading in the right direction despite being in a very competitive market. The introduction of the Throwdown classes, GRIT and a more professional approach to sales (good work team!) has really made a difference in this area. We now have a dedicated marketing resource every Thursday (welcome Sarah!) who will help us continue this resurgence into the new year across the facility.

What is happening this year?

Business Review

Jim Corbett from Sport and Leisure Solutions met with Senior staff on the 27th June and we workshopped a number of initiatives and targets for inclusion in his upcoming report. It was a full day and very productive. I look forward to his return on the 31st July when he will present to another Council Workshop on where he believes the facility is doing well, where we could improve and what the future could look like.

Budget

The 2018/19 budget was adopted by Council on the 26th June 2018 and I will be meeting with all Supervisors to refine our targets for this year in the coming weeks.

Fees and Charges

The 2018/19 fees and charges were also adopted at the same Council meeting. The main changes which will apply from the 1st August 2018 are:

  • Removal of spectator fee for accompanying adults (already in place for Swim School parents)
  • Child Pool membership (6 month or Direct debit options)
  • Senior/Pensioner rate for Group Fitness classes ($10)
  • All Group Fitness classes and Gym casual entry $17 (Group Fitness/Aqua or Gym multi-entry cards will be able to be used for any class or the gym)
  • Swimming multi entry card prices have been adjusted (no change to casual swimming prices)
  • Reduction in Vacswim entry prices
  • Lost card fee reduced to $5.00
  • Small increases in lane hire, room hire and carnival entry fees (a minimal carnival spectator fee still applies $1)
  • Small increase in LTS fees

General

Some highlights for this year in the maintenance area will include :

  • Conversion of lower change rooms to hot cold taps as per the Eastern change rooms
  • Sorting out the flooring in the Western change rooms (quotes obtained, funds and work schedule being organised)
  • Proper garrison style fencing around the grandstand (will make the area look a lot tidier while we wait for a decision on the future of this part of the building and keep the public safe from any potential building failures)
  • Painting – general tidy up of indoor pool area and corridors
  • External grandstand façade cleaning
  • Indoor pool supply and exhaust air fan replacement
  • Boiler replacement
  • Repairs to tiling on 12m pool

We will also be looking to improve our general wayfinding signage throughout the Centre and continue our push towards a more sustainable facility by:

  • working with the City on the expansion of our Solar PV system,
  • taking the next steps towards a more paperless foyer with all remaining brochures and flyers going digital where possible (see Reception for more details).
  • further implementation of our waste management strategy to include the public areas (bins are already in place and additional stickers to inform patrons of their use on the way!)

We look forward to another productive year at Beatty Park Leisure Centre and working with you all to achieve the best we can for the Community by providing a vibrant, clean and safe facility with a great range of programs for all to enjoy.
