Summer in Vincent is a great time to be outdoors and enjoy balmy evenings with friends, family and neighbours as we celebrate the festive season.
If you need help over the Christmas period, don’t be afraid to reach out. Lifeline WA is one organisation that runs a crisis support hotline on 13 11 14 and online chat via their website.
With the holidays upon us, we have a range of free events to bring our community together, make the most of our lush parks and meeting places.
Parks will be transformed into outdoor cinemas with free family movies in the park each Sunday over 10 weeks. Starting with “A Muppet Christmas Carol” in Hyde Park on 23 December. A beautiful spot to watch a fun classic!
Many people living in Vincent love to relax at the end of year with a street party with their neighbours. We’ve made it easier for you to close your local street to a hold small events like parties, play streets or a game of street cricket. Our easy-to-use toolkit and online application simplify the planning, while our funding support will help you to activate your street.
In January, we start construction on two exciting town square projects – North Perth Common and the Leederville Shared Space on Newcastle Street. These vibrant meeting places will bring people into North Perth and Leederville town centres and provide a perfect venue for both relaxing and community events.
In February, the Leederville Shared Space will be the stage for Leedy Streets Open when we close the Leederville town centre to cars over four Sundays. Our local traders will spill into the streets and we’ll see roving entertainment, music, great food and family activities for everyone to enjoy.
To all of you who have decorated your street trees, verges and homes for Christmas – a big thank you! This brings so much festive joy to our neighbourhoods and really adds to our sense of community spirit in Vincent.
With the changes made to our street trees and verges policies this year, you have the freedom and flexibility to do more with your verges. Veggie gardens, tree swings, cubby houses, decorations are all welcome. Perhaps doing something creative with your verge could be a holiday project for you and your family?
From all of us at the City of Vincent we wish you a safe and happy festive season. Thank you for supporting our endeavours this year and for your participation in, and passion for, Vincent life. I hope to see you at one of our many community events happening throughout Vincent.
- Mayor Emma Cole
