Vincent’s Local Government Elections were held last Saturday 17 October; the full results can be viewed on the WA Electoral Commission website here and also in PDF format here.

Here's a summary of the results:

  • There were three candidates vying for the position of Mayor and our former Mayor John Carey was resoundingly re-elected to the position, with 81% of all Mayoral votes;
  • In the North Ward, five candidates were contesting two Councillor vacancies with Ros Harley being re-elected with the highest number of votes (32% of North Ward votes) followed by newcomer Dan Loden (with 30% of votes);
  • In the South Ward, seven candidates were contesting two Councillor vacancies with newcomers Jimmy Murphy and Susan Gontaszewski being elected with 26% and 21% of the votes respectively. This election result means that we say farewell to former Councillor John Pintabona. Many thanks to John for his four years of dedicated service to the Vincent community.

Congratulations to the successful candidates!

Last night, the City held a formal swearing in ceremony where the Mayor and four newly elected Councillors took their declaration of office. This was followed by a Special Council Meeting to elect a Deputy Mayor (by secret ballot) and to nominate Council Member representatives to various statutory bodies and committees.

Councillor Ros Harley will stay on as the City’s Deputy Mayor. You can read more about which Councillors were appointed to the City’s various bodies and committees in the agenda/minutes of the 27 October council meeting.
