National Tree Day

Past Event

2017 is the year to get involved in National Tree Day!

Take part in the country's largest community tree planting and nature care event.

Join us at Les Lilleyman Reserve (near the clubrooms) on 30 July, 8am to 12.00pm, to help plant up the eastern bank with over 5,000 native tube stock species and transform an unused area of this reserve! Come down with the kids and the dog to meet some locals, grab a sausage sizzle and help us green Vincent!

Planet Ark's National Tree Day provides all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature – we’re proud to once again be a part of this national day of tree planting.

Why Les Lilleyman Reserve?

Since early 2011, we’ve been ‘eco-zoning’ Vincent by converting underutilised turfed areas into native gardens. These gardens increase biodiversity , use less water, fertiliser and also save labour and electricity used by sprinklers. Hands up who loves eco-zones?!

For the last two years, as part of the City’s Eco-Zoning Parks and Reserves Implementation Program 2011-2025 and National Tree Day, the verges of Britannia Road Reserve were converted into native gardens.

This year, works have commenced to eco-zone the eastern slope of Les Lilleyman and National Tree Day will see this new section planted by community-minded people like you!

Les Lilleyman Reserve's new eco-zones will be part of our wider, long-term greening plan whereby 25 parks and areas like median strips will be eco-zoned. We aim to replace around 10% of Vincent’s unused turfed areas with lovely gardens featuring low-growing native plants.

What will we be planting?

A large range of West Australian and Australian native ground covers and low growing species. West Australian and Australian native species are generally quite hardy, require small amounts of water and fertiliser, build additional habitat for our local fauna species and create a beautiful native landscape.

What do I need to bring?

Vincent will be providing a range of things such as shovels, hand trowels and gloves, but due to the popularity of this event if you have these items at home please bring them along.

What will be provided?

A sausage sizzle will be provided following planting activities.

Water and toilet facilities will available on site. Ample free parking is available in the Gill Street car park (opposite Les Lilleyman Reserve) as well as limited on road parking.
