A sustainably designed home and garden takes care of their occupants as well as the environment.
To encourage sustainable development and support our community in making sustainable design choices, we were pleased to present this FREE event in October 2013.
Hundreds of community members wanting a home and garden that is comfortable, liveable, healthy and affordable to operate and maintain attended this event.

Sustainable House Day 2013
Following the success of Sustainable House Day in the City of Vincent in 2012, we were pleased to open more properties in 2013 to showcase a greater variety of sustainable design options.
Approximately 100 visitors joined us for free guided tours at each of the four locations conducted by Architects and Home Owners. Visitors had the opportunity to experience just how stylish and comfortable a sustainably designed dwelling can be and to learn about the health and financial benefits of sustainable building design. Friendly sustainability experts were also available to answer questions.

Smart Blocks is a new national program helping apartment owners and their managers save money by improving energy efficiency in apartment buildings. Making change in an owners corporation isn't easy. Smart Blocks is all about giving you the right information and guidance to get the job done!
Smart Blocks was launched in June 2013, with the very first Smart Blocks workshop proudly hosted by the City of Vincent.
The 2013 round of Smart Blocks workshops has now concluded, but watch this space for events in early 2014.
MRC Waste Tour
On 1 June 2013 more than 30 residents jumped on board our tour bus for an informative and eye-opening visit to the Mindarie Regional Council’s Resource Recovery, Recycling and Landfill facilities - where our City's waste is processed. Most were amazed to learn exactly what happens to the junk they put in their wheelie bins and on their verges. The enormous scale and technological innovations involved in these operations also drew some surprise. Keep an eye on our events page

Home Smart Workshop
On the evening of 9 May 2013 residents interested in slashing their power bills, reducing water usage and minimising waste joined Great Gardens/Forever Project presenter Chris Ferreira for an evening of tips and tricks on how to be more sustainable in the home and garden. Keep an eye on our events page for future sustainability workshops.
Great Gardens Workshops
For the past two years we have hosted seasonal Great Gardens workshops each spring and autumn. These are popular events, often featuring well known gardening and media personalities like Sabrina Hahn and Chris Ferreira. Great Gardens has now become The Forever Project, but will continue to produce informative, eye-opening and fun presentations. Native Plant Sales
We hold twice yearly native plant sales, where residents get to purchase beautiful local native plants for their gardens at highly subsidised prices and get free advice from our knowledgeable and helpful horticultural staff. Sustainable and Affordable Housing Workshop
On 15 November 2012, the City was pleased to deliver its first ever Property Industry Workshop aimed at promoting the benefits of sustainable and affordable design to the local property and real estate industry. Delivered by sustainability education and facilitation group Green Gurus, this training event was well received, with significant interest from industry members in further workshops to help build knowldge and capacity in this area. Further workshops are planned for 2013.
Beaufort Street Festival
Beaufort street festival held on the 17th November 2012 and was home to the very first Reverse Vending Machine in Western Australia! The Reverse Vending Machine was a huge success and will be back in Vincent for the Light-Up Leederville Festival!

Free Worm Farm Workshop
Several times a year the City of Vincent holds free worm farm workshops! This workshop is great for young kids to learn about and look after, Worm Farms turn ordinary household food scraps into amazing fertilizer for your garden! Come and learn all about worm farms over a cup of tea.
