The Waste Management/Resource Recovery section encourages and promotes the goals of sustainability. Recognising that the actions of individuals in their homes and businesses can impact upon the environment, the Town undertakes several projects and initiatives to foster awareness and help minimise environmental impact.

The Town supplies worm farms to Vincent residents at a subsidised cost. For $110 for a 500g worm factory or $130 for a 1kg worm factory set up you receive a total working worm factory which is three months advanced – this includes worms, castings, the factory itself and the worm farm workshop. For further information regarding this initiative and when worm farm workshops will be held, please contact the Town's Waste Management Officer on 9273 6000.
The Town has Compost Bins available from the front counter (Administration & Civic Centre). The bins come complete with instructions and a compost pamphlet is also available.
In 2006 the Town of Vincent became involved with the Men of the Trees Carbon Neutral Programme.
The Men of the Trees grow thousands of trees and plant them in environmentally degraded areas (generally in the wheat belt) to help neutralise the amount of carbon being created by vehicles. Funds for growing and planting the trees come from individuals, corporations and businesses that pay to become carbon neutral. Each vehicle's emissions are calculated from the fuel used and then the amount of carbon that needs to be removed from the atmosphere relates to the number of trees it will take to do this.
The Town's 70 fleet vehicles produced 874.83 tonnes of carbon in 2006. To offset this, 3790 trees needed to be planted. The Town has now financed the planting of these trees and will continue with the Programme – strengthening our commitment to the environment and our community.
The Town's Parks Services section encourages the use of local native plants in gardens. Click here for further information.
