The Vincent Art Awards are an established fixture on Perth's Arts Calendar where well-known names in the art world can rub shoulders with young and emerging artists.
Each year the Town stages its pre-eminent Arts event by hosting the Vincent Art Awards, giving artists across the country the chance to compete in the prestigious awards, exhibit and sell their works and compete for the major prizes.
The aim of the Awards is to encourage creativity in multiple mediums and showcase the talents of both established and up-and-coming artists.
The Awards exhibition also gives artists the opportunity to sell their works without needing a dealer or agent. And for the patrons, an excellent excuse to purchase quality artworks outside of a gallery.
A number of categories with prizes awarded are made available each year for artists working in various mediums to enter their original creative artworks in – painting, drawing, sculpture, multi-media, installation and ceramics.
The major prize – The Vincent Prize – offers the winner a prize of $6000 and is acquisitive with the winning work remaining in the Town of Vincent Art Collection for the enjoyment of our community. The winning entries (when not on loan) can be viewed upstairs at the Administration & Civic Centre during office hours.
The Vincent Art Awards have continually grown in reputation since inception in 1996. Established names that have emerged from the hundreds of artists who have entered the Town's Art Award over the years include Thomas Hoareau, who won the inaugural award in 1996 and went on to win again in 1999 and 2006, Julie Dowling, Shaun Tan, Peteris Ciemitis and Garry Pumfrey. And a number of the artists who have been recipients of the Vincent Awards have been sought out by major galleries to exhibit including David Lamb and Thomas Hoareau.
